One of our biggest focuses as a company is providing tools that properly scale experiments from #BulktoNano. This means the in situ conditions our systems generate inside the TEM mimic those used on the bulk scale as closely as possible, creating results that are relevant and can confidently be incorporated as a complementary analysis in a grander research scheme.
Here we see a great example of this where researchers at the Dresden Center for Nanoanalysis at Technische Universität Dresden evaluated the Protochips #FusionSelect system to understand how the system operated as compared to when they use their conventional cryostat for #HallEffect measurements.
They found "...the noise introduced by the in-situ holder with its presumably less well-defined spring contacts turns out to be even lower than that one of our cryostat.....In this sense, the comparison reveals a very good noise figure for our in-situ Hall measurement platform in the TEM."

Crystal structures determine material properties, meaning that there is a large potential for applications in a variety of systems and devices. In this newest addition to our publication library, the #FusionSelect was used to obeserve the phase transformation of 2D CdSe quantum nanosheets caused by off-stoichiometry. A study such as this one, highly contributes to the fundamental understanding of the phase transformations in 2D quantum-sized semiconductor nanocrystals.Interested?https://lnkd.in/gxFu37zx |

This newest publication in Nano Today aims to understand the growth kinetics of both interfacial and bulk nanobubbles at the nanoscale. Using liquid cell transmission electron microscopy in the #PoseidonSelect nanobubbles were induced by the electron beam to oberserve their growth trajectory! Using these insights can help better engineer tailored nanobubbles with specific kinetic behaviors for different applications.Want to read the full paper?https://lnkd.in/gVt8i7pv. 101761 |

As environmental awareness increases, automobile exhaust gas emissions and fuel-consumption regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. This paper uses the #FusionSelect holder to heat up copper-supported zeolite catalysts to observe copper atoms using ptychography. The beam sensitive zeolites were beautifully observed and this shows that ptychography is a promising technique for visualizing the atomic structures of beam‑sensitive materials. |

Are you interested in doing electrochemistry using carbonate or ether electrolytes? In this new publication from the Oxford University, operando electrochemical TEM was used to reveal the differences in electroplating and stripping behavior when using carbonate or ether solvent sodium electrolytes. The stripping and plating behavior was imaged using the #PoseidonSelect holder using Pt electrochemistry E-chips. This work shows that it is of critical importance to design electrolytes such that they yield an elastic and robust solid–electrolyte interphase layer. You can read the paper here:https://lnkd.in/gSvpY4uA |

This publication on our #PoseidonSelect is looking at water oxidation for renewable energy conservation. A Glassy Carbon working electrode was used to clearly image a series of mixed-metal sulfides (CoxFeyW2Sδ) in an in situ oxygen evolution electrochemistry reaction (OER). This research demonstrates the influence of etching W on the electrocatalytic performance, and provides a low-cost means to improve the active sites of the in situ self-reconstructed bimetallic oxyhydroxides for OER.Interested? Single Pt atom catalysts are key targets because a high exposure of Pt substantially enhances electrocatalytic activity. In this paper the authors of #UniversityofNewSouthWales used the #ProtochipsAduro holder to intiate a heating experiment on single Pt atom catalysts. Using an environmental transmission electron microscope (ETEM) they were able to look at a reduction atsmophere and found that the formation of a stable single atom structure is thermodynamically driven by the formation of strong Pt–Ru bonds and the lowering of the surface energy of the Pt islands.Interested in the rest of the paper?Read it here!https://lnkd.in/gX5upA5e |

Memory transistors based on two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectric semiconductors are intriguing for next-generation in-memory computing. Using the #FusionSelect, a heating study was performed on some beautiful 2D In2Se3 films. The phase-controllable synthesis strategies of large-area 2D In2Se3 films from this study can open numerous opportunities in developing novel structures and concepts for future FE electronics as well as logic-in-memory device.Interested?https://lnkd.in/ggm4jJtR |

The Department of Colloid Chemistry in Golm has looked at the structural, morphological, and chemical evolution of a molecular precursor (uric acid). The condensation of these materials combined with different pressures and reaction rates results in a variety of porosities in the synthesized carbonaceous materials. They were able to nicely visualize this using the #FusionSelect!Interested in reading the full paper?https://lnkd.in/gSX_p7JE |

An additional Friday publication update! In this new paper from Xi’an Jiaotong University, the authors look at high-entropy oxides (HEOs) which can offer the possibility for improved material properties in applications including catalysis, energy storage, and thermal barrier coatings. The #Atmosphere allows them to observe nucleation and oxidation at the atomic scale! The atomistic insights are critical for the rational synthesis of HEOs with controlled grain sizes and morphologies and thus the related properties.Interested?https://lnkd.in/g57YXW9g |

A key issue in the development of high-performance semiconductor devices is the ability to properly measure active dopants at the nanometer scale. In this paper by @Martien den Hertog and the #UniversityofGrenoble the #Aduro was used in combination with #4DSTEM to get a better understanding of the electrostatics of semiconductor p−n junctions with nm-scale resolution!Find the paper here:https://lnkd.in/gCz_8CQe |

In this paper, recently published by Stefan Merkens Merkens at #CisNanogune our #PoseidonSelect was put to the test against one of our older systems; the #Poseidon200. The Poseidon Select uses our newest gasket to direct the flow, compared to the Poseidon200 which has a diffusion based flow. The direction of the flow with the gasket really makes a difference in how the liquid is directed through the tip of the holder, giving the user an extra level of control over flow and flow rates! Our design is the only one on the market using such a flow direction method.Interested in the paper?https://lnkd.in/gQBqcX3B |

In this paper, recently published in ACS Nano the authors are looking at the emulsion morphology, dynamics and demulsification. Emulsions of this class are currently widely used across food science, pharmaceuticals, and environmental applications. This work was done using our #PoseidonSelect and leads to further insight into the mechanisms of formation and demulsification.Curious?https://lnkd.in/gKcvydat |

In this study the goal was to establish a systematic understanding of the phase evolution in a face centered cubic non equiatomic nanocrystalline compositionally complex alloys. The #FusionSelect was used to heat the sample, while forming automated crystal orientation maps at the same time. This gave detailed information on the decomposition of their nanocrystalline alloys!Want to know more? Find the paper here:https://lnkd.in/gG3CW9qe |

Ceria particles exhibit an extraodinary capacity to capture oxygen at elevated temperatures. The authors from this article used the #Fusion Select in combination with electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) to observe the dynamic changes during the initial redox reaction process of ceria nanoparticles. With better understanding these type of reactions, products such as three-way catalysts to remove NOx and CO from combustion exhausts can be improved.Want to know more? Researchers from Paris have recently published a beautiful #PoseidonSelect heating experiment on the growth of gold nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were grown at room temperatur and elevated temperatures, showing temperature dependent nanoparticle growth. Visualizing these thermal effects at the single nanoparticle level reveals how the competition between the growth speed and the surface diffusion dictates the final shape of nanocrystals.Interested?
